August 2015 - The Okawa Family

Hi PDD Families! We are the Okawa 'Ohana from Mililani, Hawaii. Patrick is a Heavy Equipment Diesel Mechanic at Royal Contracting, Alyson is an Educational Assistant at Kipapa Elementary School, Keri Ann is a Hair Stylist at Super Cuts MTC, Reid is an Airman at Hickam Air Force Base, Alyssa is a 10th grade student at Mililani High School, Shyla is a "stay-at-home" guard dog, and Mr. Kitty is a "stay-at-home" lazy cat!

We are very honored to be recognized as PDD's Family of the Month! All we can say is, "WE LOVE PDD!" It's the best thing that has happened to us, especially to Alyssa! Alyssa started ballet and jazz dance classes at the young age of 5. The first studio she attended was Ms. Wendy's Sabrina Starr Dance Studio in Wahiawa. She followed the studio to Mililani under the new name, Y Performing Arts and then to Waipahu (Pas De Deux) with its current location in Waipio. What can we say, she just loves Ms. Wendy and this studio!

We used to always worry about Alyssa being extremely introverted, so we enrolled her in dance classes to help build up her confidence and self-esteem. Bravo to all of her dance teachers, especially Ms. Annri, Ms. Allicia, and Ms. Shauna! These wonderful teachers through their expertise helped Alyssa gain enough confidence and self-esteem that she is able to perform on stage whether it's for a recital, community performance, or competition! We cannot believe that she can get up on stage to perform! Dance gives her the ability to be free and expressive, and to help overcome all of her fears and anxieties. Even though she's still shy and quiet, dance allows her to express herself and her inner emotions.

Alyssa LOVES PDD! It is truly her second home! We feel that the studio is a safe and family-oriented environment. We feel comfortable and very blessed that she's at an awesome studio where she can spend her mornings, afternoons, and/or evenings taking dance classes or mentoring other dance classes. The PDD 'Ohana is so friendly and caring and we always feel very welcomed. She's even developed good friends whom we call Dance Sisters! Thank you Wendy, Jeremy, and the entire PDD staff for giving us so much! Alyssa is still growing as a dancer, but has gained so much confidence and self-esteem through the help of her wonderful dance teachers! Mahalo to everyone at Pas De Deux Hawaii!!
