May 2017 - The Gaspar Family

Aloha! We are honored and humbled to be to be chosen as Family of the Month (May 2017)! We are the Gaspar family—Dennis, Marlyn, Derek, Dominic and Riley. Dennis works for the Department of Defense, Marlyn works for the State Department of Education, and Derek works for Consolidated Theaters. Dominic is pursuing his Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering at University of Hawaii at Manoa and Riley is a freshman at Kapolei High School.

Riley began dancing at the age of 4 at the Rosalie Woodson Dance Academy where she took ballet and tap classes. While at Rosalie Woodson Dance Academy, she performed at the historic Hawaii Theater. At age 8, Riley joined Pas De Deux Hawaii and has been there ever since. She started with ballet then became interested in jazz and is now a member of the studio's Senior Company. More recently, she began taking beginning hula classes. It is no exaggeration when we say Riley loves dancing and the studio! Her respect, devotion and admiration for her teachers are boundless. They have challenged, motivated, inspired and encouraged her to not only be a better dancer, but to be better person. The friendships she has developed throughout the years with her fellow dancers have been priceless.

Our advice to new families is to enjoy every moment and support your child every step of the way. Cheer them on when they are performing on stage. Volunteer as much as you can—this is how you truly appreciate how hard the students and teachers work to put on a show. Wendy and Jeremy, along with their talented teachers and dedicated staff, have provided a safe and nurturing environment where students can express themselves through music and dance. We feel truly grateful and blessed to be part of the Pas De Deux Hawaii `Ohana!
