August 2017 - The Park Family

Aloha! What a huge surprise to be chosen as the Family of the Month for August 2017. We are the Park 'Ohana, Jared, Joy, Jory, Jenna, Jaren and Brownie (our fur baby). Jared works as an Operator at the Par Hawaii Refinery and Joy works as an Accounting Manager in the Moving Industry. Jory is a Senior and Jenna and Jaren are Sophomores at Kapolei High School.

Our dance odyssey began when Jenna was 7, when she started dancing Hula with Halau Hula Olana. At the age of 9, she started with Pas De Deux, dancing Hula and Hip Hop. She was fortunate to be able to dance with her Hula classmates with the Imagination Movers when they were here.

After taking Hula and Hip Hop, Jenna decided she wanted to also try Jazz and Ballet. And so our journey has progressed and her vision has expanded beyond Hula and Hip Hop. As a member of the Senior Hip Hop Company this year, she has grown beyond what we have envisioned for her. What she has learned from her teachers she will take with her as she gets older. Her commitment to dance has shown her what she needs to do to accomplish her goals in life. Her teachers have taught her that respect is earned, and have motivated and inspired her to become not just a better dancer, but a better person. Her friendships that she has cultivated during her time at the studio have enriched her life. In return, you will find her mentoring the younger keiki on Sunday's - giving back to them what she had learned herself. SQUIRREL?

For all of our new families, my advice is this. Take the time to not only getting to know the teachers that are teaching your child, but also the families of the other students in their classes. This will help you to navigate through all of the new experiences that you will have as your child gets immersed in their dance classes and want to expand into new genres. Taking the time to volunteer during recitals and performances will help to cultivate new family and friends as your dancer progresses through his/her classes.

Wendy and Jeremy and their dedicated staff have provided a safe and nurturing environment for all of these dancers. And the wealth of knowledge and opportunities that they provide our children are growing exponentially. We feel blessed to be a part of the Pas De Deux 'Ohana.
