March 2018 - The Shaap Family

Aloha. We are The Schaap/Covington Ohana, Kari, Hunter (11) and Payton (9) and we are so honored to be chosen as Pas De Deux Hawaii's March Family of the Month. Kari is the owner and competitive team director of Island Tumblers Gymnastics. Hunter is currently in 5th grade and Payton in 4th grade at Island Pacific Academy.

Hunter plays tackle football for the Waipio Panthers and during the off season plays flag football and basketball. Payton started at PDD in the musical theatre department. The Lion King Jr. will be her fourth production with PDD. Payton also is in mini jazz company, ballet, hip-hop and vocal lessons, and recently joined her schools elementary choir.

If we are not on the field, in the gym, a stage or a studio we usually can be found at home with our 4 rescue animals. We have two puppies Bailey and Jaxson and two cats Dash and Bella.

My advice to new families is to put yourselves out there… whether it be volunteering or just having a conversation with another parent or teacher while waiting for class to end. You will learn the ropes of productions, recitals, and performances and meet some pretty amazing families, students, and staff in the process.

I sincerely want to thank Wendy and Jeremy for creating such a wonderfully positive place for all children to shine. I have watched Payton grow into a more confident, responsible, and articulate child through the guidance and love that your teachers and staff have shown her.

We love our PDD Ohana!
Thank you!
