March 2019 - The Reyes Family

Aloha and Mahalo from Team Reyes! We are blessed and pleasantly surprised to be selected as Pas De Deux's Family of the Month for March 2019!

Miqayla is a Jr at Kapolei HS and is enrolled in the Performing Arts Academy where's she learning jazz, ballet, tap, and of course, HipHop!! Team Miqy's biggest fans are Dad Ruel - her official 'uber', Mom Lorraine - her "mom-ager", and Big Sis Quiana - the family musician - always cheering for sissy's accomplishments.

Miqayla's passion for dance started at 8yrs old when she first joined PDD's Polynesian department dancing Tahitian in the old studio in Waipahu. She eventually joined Hula under the direction of Ms. Shauna, but after taking her first HipHop classes with Mr. Erick - game over!! She has participated as a dancer in PDD's version of "Legally Blonde", performed in the last two ProBowls here in Hawaii, and has competed with PDD's award-winning Senior HipHop Company in Spotlight, JUMP, and The Dance Awards in Las Vegas under the direction of Mr. Jere. Nowadays you may spot her in Ms. Alicia's Beginning Jazz, and perhaps you just may spot her next fall returning to her Polynesian roots at Sunset Hoike!

Last summer, Miqayla had the opportunity to travel to Los Angeles with her HipHop brother and sisters where they auditioned for World of Dance, and also participated in Focus with Liberate Artists Inc. in Hollywood. The highlight of last summer was dancing in artist Presley Tennant's music video, "So Special". Check out the "special love" to Miqayla in the video credits on YouTube!! (funny story - ask her later) This summer, she has been blessed with a scholarship to join Phoenix Fire in NYC - looking forward to more dance opportunities!!!

We are thankful to Ms. Wendy and Uncle Jeremy for being so supportive and providing such a encouraging environment for young dancers to learn, be creative, and get exposure to the dance industry. We especially thank Mr. Jere for his patience to harness Miqayla's energy to push hard and stretch herself in developing her own style of choreo. Thank you to our PDD Ohana - looking forward to more memorable recitals and competitions!!
